Gold vs. Platinum:
Platinum (naturally white) is the rarest precious metal in the world (35 times rarer than gold)
It exhibits a strength all of its own and does not need a large percentage of alloys added to it to make it a wearable metal which in turn makes it hypoallergenic. Even the most sensitive of skins can successfully wear Platinum. Generally platinum is 90%-95% pure and is quite a bit denser than gold (60% heavier than gold)
24kt is PURE gold (naturally yellow) and is the second rarest precious metal in the world
Alloys are added to pure gold to make it stronger, thus:
18kt = 75% purity
14kt= 58% purity
10kt= 41% purity
The combination and percentages of alloys used depends on the color that is desired
Examples: White gold has more nickel. Rose gold has more copper
Platinum vs. White gold?
If you want the truest white and the stronger more malleable metal, than Platinum should be your choice. Although Platinum can still scratch like other metals, it's longevity is found in the metal's ability to redistribute itself rather than wearing away. Expect Platinum to usually be about 2 times or more than the price of gold due to it's purity, rarity, and density.
However, white gold is still a good choice. Although technically more brittle due to the added nickel it will still wear very well through the years. Since white gold derives from the natural gold color there is an underlining hue of yellow to the white gold. To combat this the industry commonly Rhodium plates white gold to give it a truer whiter appearance. On items such as rings and bracelets the rhodium can wear away over time but can be reapplied for a nominal fee
Pearl Care?
Cultured salt and freshwater pearls are an investment in beauty that will last for generations if properly cared for.
When wearing your cultured pearls, they should be the last item you put on and the first to be removed. Occasionally wipe off your pearls with a damp soft cloth. Store your pearls alone, not touching other jewelry.
Hairspray, perfume and cosmetics can dull the surface, therefore, avoid contact with them.
Pearls will have to be restrung once a year if worn frequently. We will be happy to inspect them at any time and let you know if restringing is necessary
Watch Care:
No watch in the industry is considered water PROOF. All watches are Water Resistant up to various depths. Check with the watch brand and style to see if the specifications meet your needs.

Water resistant to 100 ft is considered to withstand splashes of water but should not be worn during swimming |
 |
Water resistant to 165 feet is suitable for showering and swimming in shallow water |
 |
Water resistant to 330 feet is suitable for snorkeling |
 |
Water resistant to 660 feet is suitable for scuba diving |

Why does Gold discolor?
Believe it or not it is not the fault of the gold. If you find that a gold piece of jewelry turns your skin or clothing black it is due to one of two reasons. Metallic abrasion is caused from either makeup or clothes that contain compounds harder than jewelry itself. When the two come in contact with each other they rub off tiny flakes of the gold which, finely divided metal always appears black rather than metallic. Once the fine metal comes in contact with an absorbent surface it attaches to it and can then smudge to look like a black line.
The other, less common, reason for the black smudge can be caused due to some high acidity in one's skin coming in contact with the alloys mixed with the gold allowing a slow occurring corrosion to occur causing a 'tarnish'. There are only one of two solutions for this. Either put on a non abrasive, absorbent powder or switch to 18kt gold or Platinum.
Quick Facts on the History of Engagements ring:
The custom of giving engagement rings began in the 15th Century. A ring was chosen because it was circular and therefore symbolizing eternity and constancy of affection. Diamonds express faith in a shared life of beauty and is unchanged by time. The ring was placed on the left finger of the left hand because there is a vein running directly from that finger to the heart
Diamond in Greek means unconquerable
